A Little Calendar

This was created as part of a job interview. It had to be for the companies website - where you could send personal messages or images to the moon within a time capsule. So....something spacey! I only had a couple of hours to do this so I thought I would do something very simple.

I've been trying to think of some ideas for a blog header, was originally gonna do a self portrait but might be scrapping that. I did start some designs though of my massive head :P Gonna adapt one of them and attempt to draw the full body for more lovely anatomy practice!

Anatomy Practice

Spent my Sunday practicing some anatomy. I really want to get better at this, need to try and do a bit everyday, even if it's just 10 minutes or so. Been looking at a load of tutorials on deviantart which I've found really helpful. I also came across a concept artist called Kevin Chen who creates figurative drawings from a range of basic shapes. His stuff is amazing...if only I could draw like that from my mind without reference material. If only...

Digital Paint Practice

I've been working on this funny picture of my cousin for ages and only started getting somewhere near the end. I made some more of my own brushes a few days ago and altered them on photoshop - I quite like some of them as they create a more texturised look when painting. I really wish I had them in the beginning. I guess it's all a learning process and I know what I need to do next time.

Horse Sketches

I had an interview the other day for a Go Wales placement for an illustrator job. The company wanted to make an e-learning program for the equestrian market to test coach riders before they go on to do their exam. I was told to bring some sketches of horses to the interview. I wish I had more time to do these as I only had a day as I was going to Reading Festival! Would have been a bit sad to miss Foo Fighters to sketch in my tent. I'm not sure if I'll get the placement, really didn't know what to expect for the interview. They were telling me their ideas and asking me directly how I would illustrate or animate them and my mind just went blank. It's like when customers ask me for the time in work - I even have a watch on - I look at it and....nothing.
I'm just writing rubbish now. Here are some horses..

Long Time No Draw.

I've just got back from Greece! 2 weeks away was very relaxing and I've somehow got a tan. I literally havent had much time to draw :( Now I'm back there's a lot of things I want and need to do - must practice and get better! I will update the design of my blog soon but at the moment the last thing I've been working on was to get better at digital painting. My aim is to get to Sam Spratt's level...somehow. Gonna save up for a cintiq me thinks. I've started painting a caricature of my cousin, (sorry) this is how it's going so far. Quite a lot more to do but I shall get there.

Some Bird I Found

I've been trying to sort my mac lately now that's uni has finished. My desktop is literally covered with rubbish! I found this in one of folders full of doodles and I just found it really stupid. I remember I was really sick, I think it was in the tonsillitis days and I was sat drawing this like a lemon while trying to get better. I must have been going mental as I basically wrote a message to myself. I quite like the style of the pigeon though, it's something different.

I really wish I made a film now, after seeing everyone else's. So good. Park Bench

Here's another background for my project. I need to get a move on with these but they take so I long, well I take so long to do them! I'm use to painting everything so I always do it in that style but it takes forevz. My tutor kept telling me to loosen up and to not worry if some colour is out of the lines and if the lines are not straight and perfect. I tried to take this approach because it would save me loads of time and because my tutor told me to.... Here's a visual of the park, I'm going to draw some characters in situation using this background. There's a few texture and shadow issues I need to sort out but for now this is how it's going to look like.

I've Made A Book, Mayyyte!

One part of my project to present all my work in a book to be printed and given to my tutor. I have to honest, this was something I was gonna leave to last minute and I didn't plan on getting it printed as I knew it would be rushed. I haven't even finished all the visuals to go into it but my tutor said he wants a copy of everyones and doesn't mind having unfinished stuff inside as long as it's done. After that talk I went back to my flat and did not move from my computer until it was done! So glad it's out of the way. There's many things I want to change such as character outlines, the actual name of the series! and putting in better final work, but the deadline is approaching so it had to be done. It's being delivered a day before the deadline. EEEK.

Creepy Cereal Boxes

I'm on season 2 of Lost! I literally watched season 1 yesterday as I was doing work. Staying up and having no sleep. I actually left my flat today, it had come to point where I needed to leave and get food... It was so odd being out in the sunlight and having some sort of human interaction. Haha. I've been attempting to do the graphic side to my project and the plan was to finish it all today but its looking unlikely. Need to snooze!

Car Designs

I've been cracking on with the props and vehicles element of my project. I'm determined to get them done, along with the graphic design area for the weekend. I spent yesterday drawing everything out, I literally didn't move from my desk in my flat. I found it physically hard to get out of my chair by the afternoon.  I've been doing some photoshopping today while watching Lost from the start. It's actually helping me work well, which is odd, however I'm still doing everything so slow. Spent about 4 hours on these designs, and I still have a few more to do for tonight. Photoshop seems to mess with my head, looking at it so much is making me go slightly mental :d

2 weeks off work now! Yeaaah boy. This means I can focus on all my uni work as the deadline is in under 3 weeks. I take ages to do photoshopping and what not, so I've been rushing trying to get most of my character work done. Everything else is being neglected. I shall neaten these up when I have some time.....maybz

Living Room Background

This is the background for my main characters living room/kitchen. This background is doing my nut in!! Haha. Its nearly 2am and it's still not how I want it to be. It needs more props, lines need to be neater and some areas need painting. So I'm gonna go back to it I think as I need to hand in more than one background...

Doggy Poses

Colour work takes yonks! There are few things I want to change as the lil doggy looks weird on some profile views. Hopefully I will have time before the deadline but it's looking unlikely. Havent got round to my personal project and animatic yet. I finally have a week off work so I'm getting on it!

Coloured Expressions

Finally got round to colouring up some of my character work. I didn't realise how long it takes. Still got to do all the poses and finish the turn arounds. Loads to do. Only got a few characters done so far but I'll try and put more up soon. Been busy trying to teach myself Google Sketchup to help me with my background designs. Why didn't I learn it earlier!?? It makes it so much easier.

Character Expressions

It's so hard to keep the characters shape and proportions when doing expressions! I shall be colouring some of these soon :D
